Ingredients For ham royal

  • 1 c
    firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c
    orange juice
  • 1/2 c
    dry sherry
  • 2 tsp
    prepared mustard
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 5-7 lb
    fully cooked ham half
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp
    cold water

How To Make ham royal

  • 1
Combine the first 5 ingredients in a bowl. Prick the ham several times with a fork. Place the ham in a large heavy-duty zip-top plastic bag. Pour the marinade mixture over the ham. Seal bag securely; place in a large bowl. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours, turning occasionally.
  • 2
Remove the ham from the marinade, reserving marinade. Place ham, fat side up, in a shallow roasting pan lined with heavy-duty aluminum foil Pour the reserved marinade over the ham. Insert a meat thermometer, making sure it does not touch fat or bone. Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 1 hour and 40 minutes or until the thermometer registers 140°, basting frequently.
  • 3
Remove ham to a serving platter, reserving liquid in pan. Set aside and keep warm. Skim fat from the liquid. Pour the liquid into a small saucepan; bring to a boil.
  • 4
Combine the cornstarch and water. Stir well. Add to the liquid; cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute or until the mixture is thickened and bubbly. Serve the ham with the sauce.
