A special ham for the holidays that comes out of the oven looking like something in a magazine.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Step up your holiday dinner with this seriously delicious ham recipe. Injecting it with a little triple sec not only makes the ham nice and juicy, but it also carries the orange flavor throughout the meat. The glaze has the perfect balance of sweet and tangy and thickens up perfectly while baking. After slicing the baked ham, we recommend pouring the glaze over the meat. A bonus with this holiday meal is the presentation of the ham is amazing. Tastes and looks good, a win-win.

Note: Injecting a ham is a little different than poultry. It may come out the other injection holes but keep injecting. Test Kitchen Avatar The Test Kitchen

How to Make Festive Holiday Ham

Step-by-Step

  1. Slice the skin from the ham. Score the fat on the ham in a diamond design and stud with cloves.
  2. Inject 1/2 cup liqueur into ham, at 3-inch intervals.
  3. Combine the brown sugar and the next 7 ingredients in a medium saucepan; stir well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer for 2 minutes. Set the glaze aside.
  4. Place the ham, fat side up, on a rack in a shallow roasting pan; pour the brown sugar mixture over the ham.
  5. Insert a meat thermometer, making sure it does not touch fat or bone.
  6. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 2 1/2 hours, basting frequently with glaze.
  7. Arrange the orange slices over the exposed portion of the ham; secure with wooden picks. Place a cherry half in the center of each orange slice.
  8. Bake, uncovered, an additional 30 minutes or until thermometer registers 140 degrees.
