Farm House Fried Ham

Patricia J.

When my mother was a young married woman, an older country lady told her how to fix ham that would stay moist after it was fried. It's now been served to five generations in our family as well as countless friends. Very simple and easy. We've never found a better way to fry ham and it can be served for breakfast or dinner. There is only one change I've made through the years and that is to fry it in olive oil instead of bacon grease or lard.

How to Make Farm House Fried Ham

  1. Cut ham steak (or ham that has been sliced between 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick) into 2 to 3 pieces.
  2. Heat a large skillet that has been drizzled with olive oil on medium heat till hot.
  3. Dredge each ham slice in milk and then in flour, coating both sides.
  4. Fry until golden brown then turn to other side and fry till golden brown. You may have to drizzle more olive oil in the skillet when you turn the ham.
  5. Serve hot and enjoy.
