My New England Boiled dinner contains ham rather than the traditional corned beef because, well, I don't like corned beef, nor does anyone in my family. 05-28-2018

Ingredients For ellen's "new" new england boiled dinner

  • 1-2 lb
    ham slices
  • 1 lg
    head green cabbage
  • 4 lg
    idaho potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 6 c
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 tsp
    caraway seeds

How To Make ellen's "new" new england boiled dinner

    Cut cabbage into eight wedges and place in a large pot of water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat.

    Add ham slices to pot, cover and simmer for one hour.

    Add potatoes, salt and pepper, and caraway seeds, and continue simmering for another hour, or until cabbage and potatoes are tender.
