Ingredients For darlene's baked beans

  • 1 gallon can
bush's baked beans, i use the original
  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lb
    smoked sausage, link
  • 1 pkg
    smoked bacon
  • 1 lg
    white onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    honey
  • 1 c
    smoked bbq sauce

How To Make darlene's baked beans

  • 1
Put sausage & bacon in freezer until firm, not frozen, for easier slicing. Put beans, honey & bbq sauce in a large pot, start on low heat. After all ingredients are added, turn burner up to medium high.

When sausage and bacon are firm take out of freezer, and slice into bite size pieces. Once this is done, cook in microwave to the doneness you want, we like ours to be done, but, not black. As each round of sausage/bacon is taken from the microwave, use a papertowel to soak up any grease, add to bean pot. You can cook the sausage & bacon in a frying pan, & I've tried this, I just don't like it as good, can't tell you why, though.

Put a tbsp of olive oil in a large frying pan, add chopped onions. Cook onions till they're limp, but, not transparent, add hamburger. Once the hamburger & onions are cooked completely, drain, thouroughly, add to bean pot. Turn burner up to medium and cook for atleast 45 min., the longer they simmer, the better!
