Dad's Green Beans

Charin Buchan

This was a favorite recipe that my Dad always made for family dinners and especially Thanksgiving and Christmas traditionally. I am making sure it gets carried on by the family.

    yellow cooking onion
  • 1 c
chopped salt pork, bacon or ham pieces
  • 1 lb
baby red potatoes or quartered med. red potatoes
  • 1 Tbsp
    cooking oil or bacon grease
  • 1 tsp
    lawry's seasoning salt
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper

How to Make Dad's Green Beans

  1. sauté onions, oil, and meat for 3-4 minutes then add the remaining ingredients and combine together.
  2. cover and bring to the point of steam escaping over medium heat. Turn heat to simmer for 20 minutes. During this time do not peek.
NOTE: This method is only one type you can use. You can also just cook it all together over medium heat with no lid. I use waterless cookware and this method is the easiest for that style. You do not need to add any liquid in either method of cooking.
