Dad's Green Beans

Charin Buchan

This was a favorite recipe that my Dad always made for family dinners and especially Thanksgiving and Christmas traditionally. I am making sure it gets carried on by the family.

Add to Grocery List

3-4 lb
fresh, frozen or canned green beans (not french style)
1 medium
yellow cooking onion
1 c
chopped salt pork, bacon or ham pieces
1 lb
baby red potatoes or quartered med. red potatoes
1 Tbsp
cooking oil or bacon grease
1 tsp
lawry's seasoning salt
1 tsp
black pepper

How to Make Dad's Green Beans

  • 1sauté onions, oil, and meat for 3-4 minutes then add the remaining ingredients and combine together.
  • 2cover and bring to the point of steam escaping over medium heat. Turn heat to simmer for 20 minutes. During this time do not peek.
NOTE: This method is only one type you can use. You can also just cook it all together over medium heat with no lid. I use waterless cookware and this method is the easiest for that style. You do not need to add any liquid in either method of cooking.
