Found this recipe at Recipelion.com and tweaked it just a bit to suit my tastes. I LOVE German cooking, partly because I am half German and also because my mother raised me on sauerkraut. Photo source: easteuropeanfood.about.com

Ingredients

  • 2 cans bavarian-style sauerkraut, undrained
  • 2 pounds polska kielbasa, precooked and cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

How To Make crockpot bavarian dinner

  • Step 1
    In the bottom of a slow cooker, layer 1 can sauerkraut, 1 pound sausage pieces, half the onion slices, 1/2 tsp. bouillon, and half the spices. Repeat layers.
  • Step 2
    Cover and cook on low setting for 7 to 9 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Step 3
    Serve with a green salad and a dish of spiced apples.
