Another recipe passed down from my mother in-law. This one is one of the family's favorites too. Enjoy

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound cubed beef, i use sirloin
  • 3/4 pound cubed pork
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 2 - diced celery stalks
  • 1 can bean sprouts, add liquid
  • 1 can mushrooms, add liquid
  • 1 can water chestnuts
  • 1 can bamboo shoots
  • - butter to brown meat
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • - rice

How To Make chop suey

  • Step 1
    Brown meat in butter. Add remaining ingredients. Can be simmered on top of stove until meat is tender or in a 225 degree oven 2-3 hours. Either way check liquid and add more water, if necessary.
  • Step 2
    Before serving, dissolve 2 Tablespoons corn starch in 1/4 cup water then stir in 1/4 cup soy sauce. Cook until liquid thickens, stirring often.
  • Step 3
    Serve over rice.
