char siu (chinese bbq pork)

Okay, I had this quick request from a (good) client for some of my char siu pork. So, I don’t have a lot of images for this one. But regardless of step-by-step photos, this is one tasty piece of pork… Oh, and if anyone is thinking that they are seeing double... you are. This is my second recipe for Char Siu pork. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds pork tenderloin
  • THE MARINADE
  • 1/4 cup tamari sauce 

  • 3 tablespoons sweet clover honey 


  • 3 tablespoons organic ketchup 

  • 3 tablespoons coconut sugar, or brown sugar 

  • 2 tablespoons chinese rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce 

  • 1 pinch crushed red-pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon red bean curd 


How To Make char siu (chinese bbq pork)

  • Step 1
    PLAN/PURCHASE
  • Step 2
    THE MARINADE
  • Step 3
    Mix all of the ingredients in a small mixing bowl, until completely incorporated.
  • Step 4
    Place the pork into a large bowl or Ziploc bag, and pour in the marinade.
  • Step 5
    Place in the refrigerator for a minimum of two hours, or overnight.
  • Step 6
    Chef's Note: Remove from the marinade, shake off the excess, and discard the remainder.
  • Step 7
    Fire up your grill to medium-high heat, or use a grill pan, and cook the pork, turning occasionally, until cooked through, about 30 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Chef’s Note: An instant-read thermometer should read a minimum of 150f (65c)
  • Step 9
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 10
    Cut perpendicular to the grain, in thick slices, and serve with rice, or your favorite sides. Enjoy.
  • Step 11
