Ingredients
- FOR THE CRUST
- 1 teaspoon jarred yeast
- 2 tablespoons warm water
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cups whole wheat flour
- FOR THE MEAT BALLS
- 1/2 pound ground turkey breast
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 2 large large mushrooms, very finely diced
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (for cooking the meatballs in)
- TOPPINGS (ALL BUT THE SAUCE AND MOZZARELLA CHEESE ARE OPTIONAL, USE IN ANY VARIETY YOU CHOOSE)
- 1/2 - 2/3 cups pizza sauce, storebought or your homemade
- 8 ounces shredded, low moisture, part skim mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup baby spinach leaves
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 - fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
- 1/4 cup diced red onion
- 1/4 cup sliced olives (whatever type you prefer)
How To Make turkey meatball pizza with whole wheat crust

Step 1In a large bowl, stir together the yeast & warm water, add honey and set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 2Meanwhile in a glass measuring cup, combine the cold water, oil and salt. Add the cold water mixture to the yeast and stir in flour.

Step 3Knead the dough on a heavily floured board until smooth and elastic (about 8 minutes)

Step 4Put the dough in a lightly greased bowl and turn to coat. Let the dough rise, covered loosely with plastic food wrap in a warm, draft free place for 1 hour.

Step 5Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 6Mix ground turkey with oats, mushrooms, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Shape into bite size balls. Dress a cookie sheet with olive oil, cook meat balls in 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through. (I know this is cheating with meatballs, but it makes it so much easier, you can cook them in a skillet if your prefer)

Step 7Remove turkey meatballs and raise oven temp to 425 degrees.

Step 8Roll out the crust to desired thickness.

Step 9Ladle and spread the pizza sauce over crust.

Step 10Place meat balls over pizza sauce and layer the vegetables you've chosen over the top.

Step 11Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the top.

Step 12Bake in oven until the cheese is just starting to brown, about 12 - 15 minutes.
