Ingredients For simple lasagna

  • 2 jar
    marinara sauce, 24 oz each
  • 1 box
    lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 2
    links mild Italian sausage
  • 16 oz
    ricotta cheese
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 lg
  • 4 c
    mozzarella cheese
  • 1 c
    Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • Chopped parsley, optional

How To Make simple lasagna

  • Lasagna noodles boiling in water.
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Boil the lasagna noodles according to package directions.
  • Rinsing cooked lasagna noodles.
    After straining the cooked noodles, rinse with cool water. This makes the noodles stop cooking and prevents them from being sticky.
  • Italian sausage removed from casing in a skillet.
    Squeeze Italian sausage out of its casing. Break it apart in the pan.
  • Ground beef added to the pan to cook.
    Add ground beef to the pan. Cook sausage and ground beef until they’re completely cooked. Drain any grease.
  • Adding tomato sauce to the cooked meat.
    Pour 1 1/2 jars of your favorite marinara sauce into the pan. Set aside the remaining half jar.
  • Ground beef, Italian sausage, and marinara sauce simmering in a skillet.
    Bring the meat sauce up to a simmer. Let it simmer, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens and the flavors come together (about 10 minutes).
  • Meat sauce cooling.
    Take the pan off the stove and let the meat sauce cool for a few minutes.
  • Ricotta cheese, egg, and garlic powder in a bowl.
    In a small bowl mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and garlic powder.
  • Marinara sauce poured in the bottom of a baking dish.
    In a 9 x 13 pan, pour the last half of the marinara jar into the bottom of the pan and spread it out.
  • A layer of noodles added to the baking dish.
    Lay the first layer of noodles across the bottom.
  • Half the ricotta mixture spread over the noodles.
    Spread half the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  • Half the mozzarella cheese sprinkled over the ricotta cheese.
    Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese over the ricotta cheese.
  • Half the meat sauce spread over the mozzarella cheese.
    Spread half the meat sauce over the mozzarella. Starting with the noodles, repeat the layers.
  • Layers repeated with remaining mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top.
    Top the lasagna with a layer of noodles and 1 cup of mozzarella.
  • Sprinkling Parmesan cheese on top.
    Sprinkle 1 cup of Parmesan over the top.
  • Lasagna baked until golden brown and bubbly.
    Bake the lasagna for 45 to 50 minutes. The cheese will be melted and the edges will be bubbly.
  • Serving the simple lasagna.
    Let sit for 10 minutes before serving. Optional, sprinkle chopped parsley over the top before serving.
