I used the base recipe that I found on the back of a Lasagna pasta box but I tweaked it here and there as I saw fit. Please feel free to do the same!

Add to Grocery List

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 jar(s)
spaghetti size, standard or traditional size
  • 1 medium
    yellow onion
  • several dash(es)
    garlic powder
  • a few dash(es)
    chili powder
  • a little dash(es)
    sugar...just a little sprinkle
  • 2 pkg
    8-oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 medium
  • 1/2 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 4 c
    mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pkg
    lasagna pasta

How to Make Homemade Lasagna

  1. In a large skillet, brown ground beef; add onions and sweat well. Drain then bring back to pan. Add both jars of sauce, garlic powder, chili powder, and sugar. Let cook for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours or desired length of time. (Basically making spaghetti sauce so feel free to make it how you like it)
  2. Boil enough pasta for your 9"x13" casserole dish. Breaking pasta in half before putting in water, makes it easier to manipulate when layering in baking dish.
  3. In large bowl, mix ricotta, parmesan, 1 1/2 c. mozzarella, and egg. Set to side.

    Drain pasta
  4. When sauce is cooked to your liking, spread a think layer in bottom of baking dish. Layer with pasta. Now spread cheese mixture on top.

Repeat layers until you get to the top, ending with spaghetti sauce. Now top with 2.5 c. mozzarella cheese.

Bake 35 minutes at 375 degrees Farenheit.
