shizandra's raw dog food recipe

We recently adopted a border collie/Aussie Shepherd mix dog. She comes from an animal shelter and has some health issues that we are trying to correct. It's going to be a challenge to get her well, but we are determined to do it. This is a great recipe and it is Grain Free. Even my vet approved. We supplement it with Blue Buffalo kibble which is a very good dry dog food. It has no wheat or corn in it. This food is edible for dogs and humans, though I prefer to give it to the dog :)

Ingredients

  • 2 medium zucchini rough chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, rough chop
  • 1/4 cup broccoli/cauliflower/cabbage (these are gassy so go lightly)
  • 1-2 stick celery
  • 1 medium handful of spinach or 1 large kale leaf, stem removed
  • 2 medium sweet apples (gala, fuji, golden delicious etc.)
  • 1/4 cup peas, frozen (thawed) or fresh
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon spirulina
  • 1 tablespoon bee pollen
  • 1 tablespoon nutrional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon kelp powder or 2 nori sheets ground up
  • 1 tablespoon liquid probiotics
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera liquid
  • 6-10 ounces beet juice (optional)
  • 1/2 pound raw bison, venison or hamburger (ground) and hormone free...that is important

How To Make shizandra's raw dog food recipe

  • Step 1
Mix everything but the "meat" in a food processor until it's a puree. No lumps or chunks left. Scrape the sides of the process often to make sure it all gets processed.
  • Step 2
Dump the puree into a large bowl and add the chopped burger meat and massage it into the green mixture.
  • Step 3
I can't say how long this will last because it depends on your dog's feeding requirement. Shizandra is only a year old so we are giving her 1 cup of the green puree meat mixed with 1 cup of the kibble.
  • Step 4
She really likes this and eats it willingly. Some days she eats a bit more than others. You can adjust the amount you feed your dog, but keep the left overs and add it to the next meal.
  • Step 5
    Enjoy doggies!
