My nana used to make these once a week and there was not one left and she doubled it.

Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey/chicken
  • 1 - onion peeled and grated
  • 1/2 cup rice (uncooked)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 - tin 28 oz. tomatoes

How To Make cabbage rolls

  • Step 1
    Remove core from cabbage and set into boiling water for 15 minutes to loosens leaves.
  • Step 2
    Mix together meat, onion, rice, water, egg and sugar. Mix well.
  • Step 3
    Remove leaves from cabbage. Put meat mixture in center of each leaf. Roll up and secure with a toothpick.
  • Step 4
    Put into a large pan and cover with tomatoes and lemon juice.
  • Step 5
    Simmer for 2 hours adding more tomato juice or tomatoes if needed. Cook at 350
