Mushroom caps, seasoned and grilled, make a burger patty that's just as satisfying as their beefy counterpart only way healthier. I love to put them on a fresh sesame onion roll.

Ingredients

  • - portobello or other jumbo mushroom caps, stems removed
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • - your favorite grill seasoning to taste
  • TO SERVE
  • - red onion, sliced
  • - roma tomatoes, sliced
  • - romaine lettuce, shredded
  • - avocado, sliced
  • - mozzarella cheese
  • - buns

How To Make basic portobello burgers

  • Step 1
Cover a baking sheet with low sides in foil.
  • Step 2
Combine Worcestershire sauce, garlic, olive oil, vinegar if using and spices.
  • Step 3
Place mushrooms on baking sheet and brush generously over mushroom caps on both sides. Set aside.
  • Step 4
Preheat broiler or grill while the mushrooms soak up the goodness.
  • Step 5
Broil mushrooms about 8 minutes per side, or until they’re tender through.
  • Step 6
Split buns and brush cut surface lightly with butter, olive oil or leftover seasoning mix. Place on a pan under the broiler a minute or so until toasted.
  • Step 7
While buns are toasting, top mushrooms with cheese so it melts while they’re hot.
  • Step 8
Assemble your burgers however it makes you happy.
