A recipe given to me by my sister in law who made great tortillas--I make great road maps!!!

prep time 45 Min
cook time 5 Min
method ---
yield 12 tortillas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup water, warm

How To Make flour tortillas

  • Step 1
Mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in the shortening until mixture has a mealy appearance. Slowly add water while mixing. Form the dough into a ball. Place ball on a floured surface and knead until firm, about two minutes. Divid dough into 12 equal small balls. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes. Heat a heavy skillet over high heat. Roll each ball into a thin @7-inch circle. Cook the tortilla for @ 1 minute on each side. Flip when tortillas starts to bubble up. Place in a bowl or basket, cover with a towel to keep warm. Continue until all the tortillas are cooked. Serve warm. If you have any left over, place in aluminum foil and seal tightly.
