christina's meatloaf & bbq sauce

This recipe was given to my mother in 1956. The lady who gave her the recipe said it had been handed down for generations in her family. Believe it or not, the oatmeal makes the difference. The sauce is so good, we use it for BBQ sauce. Make sure and have some sauce left to put on the table as dipping sauce. I hope you enjoy this heirloom recipe as much as we have.

Ingredients

  • MEATLOAF INGREDIENTS
  • 1 pound gound beef
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal (not instant)
  • 1/3 cup onion (chopped)
  • 1 - egg (beaten)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt & pepper
  • MEATLOAF & BBQ SAUCE INGRDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups ketcup
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 2/3 - onion (chopped)
  • 3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 3 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper

How To Make christina's meatloaf & bbq sauce

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven bake 350 (do not use convection bake) Mix together all the meatloaf ingredients (it's best to use your hands) and shape into a loaf in a pan. Place pan in oven and make the meatloaf sauce.
  • Step 2
    Mix all the meatloaf sauce together and bring to a boil on top of stove. Pour 1/2 mixture on meatloaf.
  • Step 3
    Cook meatloaf and sauce uncovered on 350 bake for 1 hr.

    Step 4
    Remove meatloaf from oven and let it rest 5-7 min. Cut into desired pieces and top with sauce.
