This is a nice hearty meal with a simple homemade sauce and lots of cheese.

prep time 5 Min
cook time 2 Hr
method Bake
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 3 cans tomato sauce 28 oz cans
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 box large elbow macaroni (not large box actual large noodles) or other favorite pasta
  • 3 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • - crushed plain potato chips (optional)

How To Make baked goulash

  • Step 1
Brown and drain ground beef in a large sauce pan. Add beef back to pan and the rest of the sauce ingredients. Bring to boil then lower heat and simmer for at least one hour. While sauce is cooking bring a pot of water to boil and cook noodles al dente right before sauce is done. Drain noodles and add sauce to noodles until it's the consistency you want. I make mine pretty saucy since baking dries it out a bit.
  • Step 2
Assemble casserole. Layer of pasta. Then half your cheese. Then another layer of pasta. Then add the rest of your cheese. Sometimes I add crushed up potato chips to the top for a little crunch. Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes. I like my cheese nice and browned and bubbly.
