When I use bouillon cubes,I don't add additional salt but taste and season to your liking. My sons like a slice of tomato on their sloppy Joes,I like them plain,so that's optional.
I've always liked sloppy Joes,so I've been looking for a vegetarian option since I stopped eating meat.

    2 t. oil
  • ·
    10 oz mushrooms
  • ·
    1/2 onion,diced
  • ·
    1 carrot,diced
  • ·
    1 stalk celery
  • ·
    1/4 red bell pepper
  • ·
    1 c cooked lentils
  • ·
    3/4 c tomato sauce
  • ·
    1 t worcestershire sauce
  • ·
    black pepper to taste
  • ·
    1/2 vegetable bouillon cube
  • ·
    1 c water
  • ·
    4 hamburger buns

How to Make Vegetarian Sloppy Joes


  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Saute the mushrooms until they are browned. Remove from pan and set aside.
    Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan and sauté the onion until translucent. Add carrots, celery, and bell pepper and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.
    Place the mushrooms back in the pan and add lentils, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce,vegetable bouillon cube and 1 c water. Turn heat to low and stir. Season to taste with pepper.
    Serve mixture between buns.
