A tasty meaty condiment for your hot dogs. We like our dogs in a toasted bun with this meaty sauce, a little diced onion and a sprinkling of cheese.

Ingredients For hot dog sauce

  • 2 1/2 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    tomato sauce
  • 1/3 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • crushed red pepper flakes, to taste

How To Make hot dog sauce

    Crumble ground beef into a Dutch oven over medium heat. Stir in water, and mash ground beef thoroughly with a potato masher. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper, sugar, and chili powder, and crushed red pepper flakes.

    Reduce heat to low; simmer, 60 to 90 minutes, until the sauce reaches a medium consistency that is not too soupy.
