We love good fried catfish and probably everybody has their way of frying fish. This is how I do it. Nothing fancy, but it sure tastes good. Hope you like it.

Pan Fry


  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 c
    white cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt, divided
  • 1/4 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1/2 c
  • 2 large
  • 6
    8 oz. catfish fillets

How to Make Fried Catfish


  1. Combine the flour with the paprika, 1/2 tsp of the salt, the garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder and cayenne pepper.
  2. In a separate shallow dish, mix eggs, milk and the remaining tsp of salt.
  3. In another dish, combine the two cornmeals.
  4. Dredge each catfish fillet in the flour mixture first, then the egg mixture, then the cornmeal mixture last.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet and fry 3 fillets until golden brown on one side (about 5 minutes). Turn fish over and fry on the other side about 5 minutes until golden brown and flake tender. Remove and drain on paper towels. Add remaining 3 fillets and fry.
