We love good fried catfish and probably everybody has their way of frying fish. This is how I do it. Nothing fancy, but it sure tastes good. Hope you like it.

Pan Fry

all purpose flour
1/2 c
yellow cornmeal
1/2 c
white cornmeal
1/2 tsp
1 1/2 tsp
salt, divided
1/4 tsp
onion powder
1/4 tsp
cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp
garlic powder
1/4 tsp
black pepper
2 c
vegetable oil
1/2 c
2 large
8 oz. catfish fillets

How to Make Fried Catfish


  • 1Combine the flour with the paprika, 1/2 tsp of the salt, the garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder and cayenne pepper.
  • 2In a separate shallow dish, mix eggs, milk and the remaining tsp of salt.
  • 3In another dish, combine the two cornmeals.
  • 4Dredge each catfish fillet in the flour mixture first, then the egg mixture, then the cornmeal mixture last.
  • 5Heat oil in a deep skillet and fry 3 fillets until golden brown on one side (about 5 minutes). Turn fish over and fry on the other side about 5 minutes until golden brown and flake tender. Remove and drain on paper towels. Add remaining 3 fillets and fry.
