Ingredients

tender stewing chicken
1/2 cup
seasoned flour
1/2 cup
butter

cups boiling water

small onion

carrot, diced

stalk of celery, diced
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup
sour cream
1 TBS
flour

How to Make Ukrainian Stewed Chicken

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cut chicken into serving pieces
    and coat with the seasoned flour
  • 2Lightly brown in the butter and place into a roasting pan
  • 3Add the boiling water, cover and cook in a 300 degree oven for 1 hour
  • 4Add the veggies and seasoning and continue cooking 1 to 11/2 or till tender
  • 5Blend the flour with the sour cream* and add to the chicken the last 1/2 hour of cooking
  • 6* I find blending a tablespoon of the hot broth to the blended sour cream and flour helps eliminate curdling and repeat the addition of hot broth until it pours nicely.
  • 7Savella suggests Garnishing with Dill,
  • 8Olga likes to serve with buttered noodles and mash potatoes sprinkled with chives
