Ingredients

    tender stewing chicken
  • 1/2 cup
    seasoned flour
  • 1/2 cup
    butter
  • 3
    cups boiling water
  • 1
    small onion
  • 1
    carrot, diced
  • 1
    stalk of celery, diced
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup
    sour cream
  • 1 TBS
    flour

How to Make Ukrainian Stewed Chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut chicken into serving pieces
    and coat with the seasoned flour
  2. Lightly brown in the butter and place into a roasting pan
  3. Add the boiling water, cover and cook in a 300 degree oven for 1 hour
  4. Add the veggies and seasoning and continue cooking 1 to 11/2 or till tender
  5. Blend the flour with the sour cream* and add to the chicken the last 1/2 hour of cooking
  6. * I find blending a tablespoon of the hot broth to the blended sour cream and flour helps eliminate curdling and repeat the addition of hot broth until it pours nicely.
  7. Savella suggests Garnishing with Dill,
  8. Olga likes to serve with buttered noodles and mash potatoes sprinkled with chives
