This is a family "hand-me-down" recipe I have been making for years. Our family can't get enough of it.

prep time 15 Min
cook time 10 Min
method Stove Top
yield 6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cooked chicken breast, cubed
  • 2 boxes chicken broth
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

How To Make homemade chicken and dumplins

  • Step 1
Allow cooked, cubed chicken and broth to come to a boil in a large stock pot.
  • Step 2
Mix flour, salt, and soda in a large bowl. Add shortening and buttermilk and mix well until dough forms.
  • Step 3
Pinch, or use a spoon, off teaspoon size pieces of dough and drop into broth until all dough is gone. Stir gently and allow to boil for 10 minutes. Add pepper to taste when serving.
