I love Chinese food! This is one of my favorite dishes. I couldn't seem to find a local restaurant that made this dish the way I liked. So, I figured , why not make it at home, and save the hassle?

Ingredients

  • 1 or 1 1/2 pounds pork or chicken, cubed
  • 4 - stalks celery, sliced
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 12 ounces bean sprouts, fresh is best, but you can use canned
  • 5 ounces bamboo shoots, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • approx. 3 tablespoons oil for cooking

How To Make chow mein- my way

  • Step 1
    Brown meat in oil on HIGH heat for 5 minutes. Add celery, onions, and garlic. Cook on MEDIUM heat, stirring until tender. Add bean sprouts and bamboo shoots, ( stirring carefully), about 3 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Blend soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and 1 T. of broth. Add with remaining broth to skillet. Cook, stirring gently but constantly until thickened. Adjust seasoning with additional soy sauce or salt.
  • Step 3
    Serve over Chinese noodles.
