This is the recipe my grandmother used to make. It remains a family favorite!

prep time 1 Hr 15 Min
cook time 1 Hr
method Stove Top
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 medium green (or red or yellow) sweet bell peppers
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 can yellow corn (frozen or fresh can also be used)
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder (can add to your taste)
  • 1 cup elbow, or other tubular pasta (add as much or as little as you prefer)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (can use american or mixed cheeses also, yellow cheese is best)
  • 1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste

How To Make ruth's goulash recipe

  • Step 1
Brown ground beef along with your already chopped up onion and green peppers. Cook til beef is browned and onions, peppers are translucent. Drain extra liquid from medium can of corn, then add to the above mixture and continue to allow it to cook.
  • Step 2
Add the tomato sauce, followed by the chili powder for seasoning, salt & pepper to taste. Then add pasta in the desired amount. The mixture may need to be thinned by adding a small amount of water. Let simmer. Adjust seasonings as is needed.
  • Step 3
When the above ingredients are done, add yellow cheese to the top of the other ingredients in the desired amount. Melt cheese either by allowing it to slowly melt while still on top of the stove, or place in the stove for melting cheese, if cooking dish is oven proof!
  • Step 4
Let sit five minutes to cool after cooking. Serve with garlic bread and enjoy!
