I created this using ingredients that I like and that my family enjoys. We have a family member that has a severe gluten sensitivity. You can make it gluten free by using tamari instead of soy sauce, check your barbeque sauce ingredients for wheat products, and check your baked bean can for wheat-free ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon mustard, ground or prepared mustard
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 19 oz. cans diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 can water
  • 15 ounces can baked beans, undrained
  • 19 ounces can kidney beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup barbeque sauce
  • 1 cup cole slaw mix or shredded cabbage
  • 1 - carrot, shredded
  • - salt to taste (won't need much)

How To Make beans, beans and beef

  • Step 1
Sweat onions in one tablespoon of oil. Break up ground beef and add to onions to brown the meat.
  • Step 2
Add mustard and soy sauce and stir into mixture. Add tomatoes, water, cabbage and carrot and stir.
  • Step 3
Add beans and barbecue sauce. Combine and simmer for about 30 minutes until vegetables are tender. Taste for seasoning. Probably won't need much salt - if any- because the barbecue sauce, soy sauce and baked beans have salt.
  • Step 4
Serving suggestions: Serve with rice or noodles; top with grated cheese or sour cream; sprinkle with chopped parsley for freshness and colour.
