My family and I love this sauce. We serve it with a big focaccia, salad and fruit. nice light summer dinner. And, after all, who doesn't love the joy of eating "Street walker spaghetti"?

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 - onion, finely chopped
  • 6 - garlic
  • 1 tablespoon anchovy paste
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup kalamata olives, black olives and green olives mixed
  • 3 tablespoons capers
  • 2 cans 28 oz diced tomatoes with liquid
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • - salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 pound spaghetti

How To Make puttanesca sauce

  • Step 1
    In a large pot heat the olive oil over medium high heat.
  • Step 2
    Add the onion and saute until soft and lightly caramelized, about 6 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add the garlic, tomato paste and anchovy paste and cook an additional 2 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Add the tomatoes and the remaining ingredients and simmer until the sauce is thickened and slightly reduced, about 40 minutes. Adjust seasonings.
  • Step 5
    Toss sauce with cooked pasta.
