1In a sauce pan heat oil. Saute onion and garlic; rub dried herbs in palm of hand before adding to onion. Add tomatoes and juice, sugar, salt & pepper; (add frozen meatballs if desired). Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer uncovered until thickened to desired consistency Thick for pizza or calzone). Pour over pasta add fresh grated parmesan cheese over top.
Sometimes I saute Italian sausage with the onion and omit the meatballs. When making vegetarian style, I leave out all meat!
