dried sausage casserole with buttered croûtons

This recipe is from an Italian sausage cookbook-I got at a garage sale. It is an old book, don't see any date as to it's print time.Very good though. My son and husband liked it so that's all that matters. LOL.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces smoked dried italian sausage, sliced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice may be add ,if desired
  • 11 ounces can condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 cup peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup dry macaroni,amount before cooked
  • 1 tablespoon minced dried onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
  • topping: - 1 cup onion/garlic croûtons and 4 tablespoons butter

How To Make dried sausage casserole with buttered croûtons

  • Step 1
    Combine flour and milk in a large saucepan or skillet. Add sausage,tomato juice, soup, peas, cooked macaroni, onion, sage and Italian seasoning. Mix well. Pour into large foil lined buttered or sprayed casserole dish or pan. Let set over night in refrigerator. Next day....
  • Step 2
    Bake uncovered in 350^ oven for 30 minutes. Combine melted butter and croûtons and mix together until croûtons are well coated with the butter. Top casserole with butter croûtons and bake for 5 minutes more.
