This is a easy version of one of my recipes for french onion soup. I have a longer version, but this is the one I make when I don't have too much time. It's yummy!

  • 3 Tbsp
    real butter
  • 3 large
    onions, thinly sliced
  • 6 c
    beef broth
  • 1 c
    apple cider
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 4
    1"-thick slices french bread, toasted lightly
  • 1/2 c
    shredded swiss cheese

How to Make Easy French onion soup


  1. In lg soup pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions. Cook, stirring occasionally for 25 mins, or until golden.
  2. Add broth, apple cider and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer on low. Stir in parmesan cheese, cooking until cheese is melted.
  3. Heat broiler. Place bread slices on baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly w/ swiss cheese. Broil 3-5 min, or until cheese is melted. Pour soup into serving bowls and top each bowl w/ a slice of french bread.
