This humble Mackerel is a much underrated fish.It is sustainable and cheap as chips.Mackerel is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids,selenium and vitamin b-12.Its moist,its meaty and doesn't fall apart when barbecued or grilled. I had Indian friends visiting from abroad and wanted to shock and delight them with my jazzed up Mackerel..."Mikes Style"!

Ingredients

  • 3 medium mackerel, fresh - filleted and washed
  • 4 cloves garlic,fresh minced or pounded
  • 11/2 - inch piece ginger,fresh grated
  • 2 medium green chiles, fresh mild
  • 1/2 - lemon,fresh juiced
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt, plain
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper,freshly ground
  • 2 - level tsp of tandoori fish masala- available in most indian or south asian stores
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, ground

How To Make jazzed up - mackerel mike's style

  • Step 1
    place washed mackerel in a glass dish
  • Step 2
    add all ingredients into a little bowl and mix well
  • Step 3
    smear fillets of mackerel with marinade,cover and let it rest for about 2 hours.
  • Step 4
    grill on high in frying pan, coated with grape seed oil for 6-8 minutes per side/or on a foiled lined baking tray.
  • Step 5
    I served this sumptuous, yet humble mackerel with steamed baby potatoes and broccoli.

    Tips: Omega-3 fatty acids are imperative for brain development....and strengthening of joints..!
