While not much of a seafood lover, I have been known to eat fish if you disguise the fishy taste enough. This recipe, found in an old cookbook, seems to pass the test. Photo: www.mothersdelite.com.au

Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen fish fillets (cod, ocean perch, halibut or flounder)
  • 2 tablespoons fine cracker crumbs
  • 1 can (14 oz.) stewed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

How To Make baked fish au gratin

  • Step 1
    Thaw fillets as directed on package.
  • Step 2
    Grease a 1-qt. shallow baking dish and sprinkle with the cracker crumbs. Lay the fillets on top of crumbs.
  • Step 3
    In a medium bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, salt and pepper. Pour over fillets. Dot with butter and cheese.
  • Step 4
    Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 35 minutes, until the fish "flakes" when pierced with a fork.
