I love getting this dish at chinese restaurants, but wanted it to be healthier, so I made this. I do have a recipe for the fried type, but this is just as good.

Ingredients

  • 4 - boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1`/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed, hot red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • - hot cooked rice

How To Make slow-cooked general tsaos chicken

  • Step 1
    In bowl, whisk together hoisin and soy sauces, brown sugar, ketchup, ginger and crushed red pepper flakes, pour water over all.
  • Step 2
    Pour sauce into slow cooker. Add chicken and stir to coat chicken. Cook, covered 4-6 hrs, or until chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from cooker.
  • Step 3
    Cut chicken into chunks. Whisk cornstarch into sauce in cooker until thickened. Put chicken back into cooker. Cook 15 mins more, or until hot. Spoon over rice, sprinkle w/ sesame seeds.
