I love getting this dish at chinese restaurants, but wanted it to be healthier, so I made this. I do have a recipe for the fried type, but this is just as good.

Ingredients

  • 4
    boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    hoisin sauce
  • 2 Tbsp
    light soy sauce
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    ketchup
  • 1`/4 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp
    crushed, hot red pepper flakes
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp
    toasted sesame seeds
  • ·
    hot cooked rice

How to Make Slow-cooked general tsaos chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. In bowl, whisk together hoisin and soy sauces, brown sugar, ketchup, ginger and crushed red pepper flakes, pour water over all.
  2. Pour sauce into slow cooker. Add chicken and stir to coat chicken. Cook, covered 4-6 hrs, or until chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from cooker.
  3. Cut chicken into chunks. Whisk cornstarch into sauce in cooker until thickened. Put chicken back into cooker. Cook 15 mins more, or until hot. Spoon over rice, sprinkle w/ sesame seeds.
