I love getting this dish at chinese restaurants, but wanted it to be healthier, so I made this. I do have a recipe for the fried type, but this is just as good.

Ingredients

boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1/2 c
water
3 Tbsp
hoisin sauce
2 Tbsp
light soy sauce
1/2 c
light brown sugar
3 Tbsp
ketchup
1`/4 tsp
ground ginger
1/2 tsp
crushed, hot red pepper flakes
1 Tbsp
cornstarch
2 Tbsp
toasted sesame seeds
hot cooked rice

How to Make Slow-cooked general tsaos chicken

Step-by-Step

  • 1In bowl, whisk together hoisin and soy sauces, brown sugar, ketchup, ginger and crushed red pepper flakes, pour water over all.
  • 2Pour sauce into slow cooker. Add chicken and stir to coat chicken. Cook, covered 4-6 hrs, or until chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from cooker.
  • 3Cut chicken into chunks. Whisk cornstarch into sauce in cooker until thickened. Put chicken back into cooker. Cook 15 mins more, or until hot. Spoon over rice, sprinkle w/ sesame seeds.
