This is the best soup of this genre that I have ever eaten. I got it from the cook at a kiosk that was set up outside a Haunted House display on Halloween 1983. It is so hearty and nouishing. I hope you enjoy the wonderful flavors of the season.

Ingredients For genuine mexican tortilla soup

6 clovechopped garlic

3 lgdiced onion

3 Tbspreal butter

3 Tbspvegetable oil

2 lgcan whole green chilies. cut into slices

4fresh yellow chilies chopped

2 lgcans chopped tomatoes

2 smcans, el pato hot tomato sauce

2 lgcan chicken stock
-
2 tspchili powder
-
2 tspcumin
-
1/2 tsporegano, dried

2 tspsalt
-
1 cfresh cilantro, chopped

1bag of juanita's tortilla chips

grated jack cheese or pepper jack cheese
How To Make genuine mexican tortilla soup

1Saute onions and garlic in butter and oilC Combine all other ingredients except tortilla chips and cheese. Simmer in large pot for 1 hour Serve in soup bowls

2On top of soup, crumble tortilla chips and grated jack cheese Place under broiler until cheese is melted You may add shredded pork or chicken to make this a more hearty soup.
