My mom made this in Florida years ago. Four decades.Not sure who copied who but the taste is no question. Copycat recipe? Mom would soak the chicken in this for at least 1 hr.then grill the chicken and boil the marinade and base the chicken with it. I make a double batch and use half for marinade and half for the basting. No one ever got sick from moms chicken but I just could never bring my self to use it twice.
1Mix juices, oil, turmeric,garlic salt and pepper. Place in zip lock bag with chicken for at least 1 hour.
2Make another batch of juices,oil,turmeric,garlic salt and pepper. Or you can loco polo and use the stuff from the bag.
3Cook the cut-up chicken until the meat appears milky white and the juices run clear, no longer pink.
Baste with enough of mixture to evenly coat skin side.
Turn and baste other side.
Turn again to skin side up and broil 6" from the heat, brushing with additional sauce every few minutes until skin is really crispy and golden brown, approximately 5 to 8 minutes for large pieces.
