My mom made chicken with this barbecue sauce. It was always so very good.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp
    catsup
  • 2 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • ·
    slices of lemon
  • 4 Tbsp
    cold water
  • 2 Tbsp
    lea & perrins sauce
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    brown sugar (more if desired)
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    mustard
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    red pepper

How to Make Barbecue Sauce for Chicken Or Ribs

Step-by-Step

  1. Put all ingredients into a sauce pan and boil for 15 minutes. Allow to cool before using. (Keep unused sauce in the refrigerator.)
  2. For Chicken or ribs: bake 15 minutes at 500°, then lower temperature to 350° and continue to bake at least 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  3. Add the barbecue sauce during the last 20 or 30 minutes of cooking.

    On the barbecue grill, cook until nearly done, then add the sauce. It will burn easily, keep a close eye on the meat after adding the barbecue sauce.
