Sprinkle chicken breasts with salt and pepper, saute in butter over medium heat until brown on all sides. remove chicken to plate.
**NOTE** a variation of this recipe would be to shake the chicken pieces in flour first, then saute them.
Saute garlic, onion and mushrooms in same pan, adding more butter as necessary; cook till starting to brown.
When mushrooms and onions are slightly brown, stir 1/2 cup wine into pan, bring to a boil. add chicken to pan, cover with mushrooms and onions. add more wine to cover chicken. bring to boil again, then cover pan, lower heat, and simmer till chicken is done (165°).
Serve with crusty french bread, and the same wine you used to cook chicken.
