This is a recipe I have made many times. It is very easy, especially if you have leftover mashed potatoes. It is hearty and satisfying. I originally found it in an Assyrian cookbook, and added my own twist to it. This can also be cut into small squares and served as an appetizer.

1 lbground beef

2 lbboiled and peeled potatoes

1 smonion, finely chopped

1 to 2 clovegarlic, minced

3eggs
-
2 Tbspbutter
-
1/2 cbread crumbs
-
salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 to 1 ccheddar cheese, shredded
How To Make assyrian meat and potato casserole - hearty!

1Saute meat, onion and garlic together - adding salt and pepper to taste - until done; set aside.

2Mash the cooked potatoes, add one egg, butter, and salt and pepper to taste. Divide into two equal parts.

3Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the bread crumbs. Spread one part of the potato mixture over the bread crumbs.Spread the meat mixture on top of the potato layer. Cover the meat with the remaining potato mixture.

4Mix together the remaining breadcrumbs and the cheese. Sprinkle over top of casserole. Cover, and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
