yakitori(japanese beef and green onion skewers)

Another one of our favorite kebabs, so flavorful yet quick and easy. This recipe is from the Relish magazine...I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Ingredients

  • 8 - 10 inch bamboo skewers that have been soaked in water for at least 30 minutes.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons mirin or sherry
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless sirloin or beef tenderloin, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 bunches green onions(scallions), cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 2 teaspoons peanut oil

How To Make yakitori(japanese beef and green onion skewers)

  • Step 1
    In small, heavy saucepan bring soy sauce, mirin and vinegar to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until it gets syrupy.
  • Step 2
    Toss beef cubes and green onions with the oil. Thread beef and onions onto skewers, use 3 onion pieces in between each beef cube(1,3,1,3,etc).
  • Step 3
    Heat grill,lightly oil grill . Grill skewers for 1 minutes on each side, brushing with the glaze. Transfer to your serving platter and brush lightly with glaze again...great served with basmati or jasmine rice, maybe corn on the cob or grilled squash?
