Some call these loose meat sandwiches. In the Midwest or at least here in my hometown we call them Tasties. Have your butcher triple grind your ground beef. The meat will crumble as you cook it. Also check your local bakeries or stores for dollar size buns. That is the classic way to eat a Tastie. Throw on some mustard and pickles and BAM! You're in heaven. Recipe from my mama.

Ingredients For tasties-annette's

  • 5 lb
    ground beef (triple ground)
  • 1 c
    finely chopped onion
  • 3/4 c
    catsup
  • 3 tsp
    horseradish (heaping teaspoons)
  • 3 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 5 tsp
    salt (heaping teaspoons)

How To Make tasties-annette's

    Put ground beef and onion into pan. Pour other ingredients into 1 cup glass measuring cup. Should fill cup. If not, add catsup.

    Pour over raw meat. Fill same cup with warm water. Pour over meat.

    Cook over medium low heat. Stir constantly until meat is broken finely. Should have the appearance of granules almost. Increase heat to medium and bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat. Let boil slow for 1 hour at medium low heat stirring occasionally.

    ****The recipe sounds like it calls for a lot of salt but it's really not for the amount of meat. Don't shorten it or it won't be the same.****
