With St. Patty's day just around the corner and corned beef going on sale I wanted to share this full flavored family favorite. Made with sweet and spicy seasoned corned beef this sandwich is sure to please. This is great served with calico corn, a warm cobbler and a nice stout beer.

Ingredients For sweet and spicy corned beef sandwiches

  • 1
    corned beef brisket (3 to 4 pounds)
  • 10
    peppercorns
  • 4
    bay leaves
  • 3 clove
    garlic
  • 2
    cinnamon sticks (3 inches), broken
  • 1 tsp
    crushed red pepper flakes
  • kaiser type sandwich buns
  • GLAZE
  • 1/2 c
    packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground mustard (optional,i don't make it with mustard)
  • 1/4 tsp
    celery salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    caraway seed

How To Make sweet and spicy corned beef sandwiches

    Place corned beef with the seasoning packet in a dutch oven; cover with water. Add peppercorns, bay leaves, garlic, cinnamon sticks and red pepper flakes; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 4 to 4 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

    Drain and discard juices; blot brisket dry with paper towl. In a small bowl combine glaze ingredients. Rub onto top of warm meat. Grill or broil for 5-10 minutes on each side until glazed.

    Slice meat; serve warm or chilled on buns.
