slow cooker irish stew
Got this recipe from my grandmother 50 years ago. I have tweaked it over the years and started cooking in a slow cooker instead of on stove or in oven for hours. You will love this. Enjoy !

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds beef stew meat
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed-- 2 cups
- 2 medium carrots cut into 1/2 " pieces --1 cup
- 1 medium onion slicd into thin wedges
- 1/2 cup celery - sliced
- 1 package frozen cut green beans (9 oz)
- 1 tablespoon instant beef bouillon granules
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 can tomatoes (16 oz) cut up
- 1 1/2 cups water

Step 1Cut meat into 1/2-inch cubes.

Step 2In a large skillet, brown meat, half at a time, in hot oil. Drain well.

Step 3Meanwhile, in a 3-1/2-, 4-, 5-, or 6-quart crockery cooker, combine potatoes, carrots, onion, and celery. Add frozen beans, bouillon granules, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir in browned meat, undrained tomatoes, and water

Step 4Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 10 to 12 hours, or on high-heat setting for 5 to 6 hours. Makes 6 servings.
