My husband loves casseroles and this is one of my favorites. He likes it too.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef or bison
  • 16 ounces frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 medium onion, cut up
  • 1 small package of tater tots
  • 8 ounces sliced portabello mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup cheese, shredded
  • 2 packages brown gravy mix

How To Make sheperd's pie

  • Step 1
    Brown meat on medium heat in a skillet until cooked. Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Step 2
    add onion and mushrooms to meat. Cover and cook until mushrooms and onions are cooked through. approximately 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add gravy mix to 1 1/2 cups of water.
  • Step 4
    Stir gravy into meat mixture and cook until gravy has thickened.
  • Step 5
    Remove from heat and spread meat mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 pan.
  • Step 6
    Add mixed vegetables and spread evenly over meat.
  • Step 7
    Place tater tots over the top of vegetables. You can place them in any order that you desire for funness. but the veggies need to be completely covered.
  • Step 8
    Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. remove pan from oven.
  • Step 9
    Sprinkle cheese over the top of the pie and return it to the oven for another 5 minutes.
