I've seen the idea for this on Pinterest. But It lacked onions and peppers, It was just beef in a provolone sauce. So when I made this, I bumped up the flavors a lot! Adding some caramelized onions and some green peppers, to mimic that infamous Philly Cheesesteak flavor. Very inexpensive to make, and veryyyyy delicious! I hope you all enjoy!

Now...I know some people in Philly argue about which cheese on a cheesesteak is correct. Some will say Cheese Wiz others, will point you in the direction of provolone. Which Is why I gave you both options! :)

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This is a great take on a sloppy joe. It has the onion, pepper and cheese flavor from a Philly cheesesteak but uses ground beef like a sloppy joe. We opted to use Cheez Whiz when testing and loved how it melts into the meat. Provolone cheese would be delicious too. Served on a toasted bun your family is going to gobble it up. Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1
    Spanish onion (diced)
  • 1
    green or red bell pepper (seeded & diced)
  • 1 c
    beef stock
  • 1/4 tsp
    granulated garlic
  • 1/2 tsp
    granulated onion
  • ·
    salt and pepper, to taste
  • ·
    bread or buns of choice
  • CHOICE OF CHEESE (PROVOLONE)

  • 5 slice
    provolone cheese
  • ·
    half & half or milk, until desired consistancy
  • CHOICE OF CHEESE (CHEEZ-WIZ)

  • 1/2 c
    Cheez Whiz
  • ·
    half & half or milk, until desired consistancy

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Step-by-Step

  1. Add 1 tbsp butter to the pan.
  2. Add ground beef. Break up until desired size and cook until browned.
  3. Depending on how tender or crunchy you like your peppers and onions add them to the skillet. If you like a lot of crunch, add them towards the end of the cooking the ground beef. If you like them soft, but still tender like I do, add them with the meat at the beginning.)
  4. Once the beef is browned, add your salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic granules. Stir.
  5. Add the beef stock and stir.
  6. Choose your cheese. If you chose provolone, add all the slices, cover until melted. Stir and add milk or half & half until desired consistency.

    If Cheez Whiz was chosen, do the very same thing, except don't add the provolone... But I probably didn't have to tell you that, lol.
  7. Serve hot on your bun, bread or hoagie roll of choice. And enjoy!!! :)
