1/3 c
rice, uncooked
2 Tbsp
butter

onion, finely sliced

egg, well beaten
1 c
tomato soup

juice from 1 lemon
1 tsp
sugar
1 tsp
parsley, minced
1/2 c
celery, chopped
salt and pepper
6
cabbage leaves

How to Make Cabbage Rolls (Old German Recipe)

Step-by-Step

  • 1Season the hamburger well with salt, pepper and add the egg.
  • 2Mix well.
  • 3Mix in rice.
  • 4To make sauce, melt the butter and add the tomato soup and an equal amount of water and add to onion.
  • 5Add the parsley, celery, lemon juice, sugar, salt and pepper, and cook for 10 minutes.
  • 6Wash the cabbage leaves and boil until tender.
  • 7Put 2 tablespoons of meat mixture in each leaf and roll tightly.
  • 8Secure each roll with a toothpick.
  • 9Place in a saucepan and pour sauce over rolls.
  • 10Cover pan tightly and cook slowly for 3 hours.
  • 11Serve very hot.
