I've been making meatloaf this way since my mother taught me as a young girl. The topping came from a cousin who made her meatloaf for a dinner about 37 years ago! (Wow - did I say 37?!)

Ingredients

MEATLOAF:

3 lb
ground beef
1/8 tsp
pepper
8 oz
tomato sauce, canned
2 clove
garlic, minced
1/4 c
bell pepper, finely chopped
1 tsp
salt
2
eggs
1/2 c
chopped onion
1/4 c
oats

SPECIAL SAUCE:

1/2 c
ketchup
1/2 c
light brown sugar
2 tsp
yellow mustard

How to Make Martine's Meatloaf

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine all MEATLOAF ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape into loaf and place in baking dish or loaf pan.
  • 2Bake for 1 hour at 350°. Mix special sauce ingredients while meatloaf is baking.
  • 3Remove meatloaf from oven; very carefully tilt pan and scoop out grease.
  • 4Pour special sauce over the top and sides of the meatloaf.
    Cook 15 minutes more.
