I've been making meatloaf this way since my mother taught me as a young girl. The topping came from a cousin who made her meatloaf for a dinner about 37 years ago! (Wow - did I say 37?!)

Ingredients For martine's meatloaf

  • MEATLOAF:
  • 3 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce, canned
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1/4 c
    bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    chopped onion
  • 1/4 c
    oats
  • SPECIAL SAUCE:
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp
    yellow mustard

How To Make martine's meatloaf

  • 1
    Combine all MEATLOAF ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape into loaf and place in baking dish or loaf pan.

    Bake for 1 hour at 350°. Mix special sauce ingredients while meatloaf is baking.
  • 3
    Remove meatloaf from oven; very carefully tilt pan and scoop out grease.
  • 4
    Pour special sauce over the top and sides of the meatloaf. Cook 15 minutes more.
