Ingredients
- 3 - 3 1/2 pounds beef chuck roast
- 3 cups carrots, sliced
- 3 cups onions, sliced
- 1 cup celery, sliced
- 2 large kosher dill pickles, chopped
- 1/2 cup dry red wine or you can use beef broth
- 1/3 cup german-style mustard
- 2 teaspoons coarsely ground black pepper
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 cup cold water
How To Make german-style roast beef

Step 1Spray the interior of the slow cooker with vegetable spray.

Step 2Brown roast on both sides in a small amount of oil in a skillet. Place roast into the slow cooker.

Step 3Sprinkle carrots, onions, celery and pickles around the roast in the slow cooker.

Step 4Combine wine or broth, mustard, pepper, bay leaves and cloves in a bowl and mix well. Pour over ingredients in the slow cooker.

Step 5Cook on low for 6-8 hours or to your liking. Then remove meat and vegetables to a large platter - cover to keep warm.

Step 6Mix flour with 1 cup cold water in a bowl or measuring cup and mix until smooth. Turn crockpot to high and stir in flour-water mixture, stirring continually until broth is smooth and thickened.

Step 7Slice meat and top with vegetables. Serve with gravy on the side.
