Deep Dish Beef Pie

I have made this a few times. Sometimes I use left over stew from the night before. It's a better way of using leftovers. My uncle calls it "day after stew pie" kind of as a personal family joke.

  • 1 lb
    boneless beef sirloin,1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 tsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    celery, chopped
  • 1 c
    carrots, sliced
  • 1 c
  • 1 1/2 c
    tomato juice
  • 3/4 tsp
    basil, dried
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/8 tsp
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 2 c
    green beans
  • 1 tsp
  • 1
    pie crust shell

How to Make Deep Dish Beef Pie


  1. Spray large frying pan or skillet with non-stick oil. Heat pan over medium heat. Heat oven to 400F.
  2. Brown half the meat at a time. Return all the meat to the pan.
  3. Stir in the next 9 ingredients, cover pan & let simmer for about 50 to 60 mins or until meat is nearly tender.
  4. Combine the flour with with 2 tsp. of water & stir into a mixture. Pour over the meat & veggies & cook until thickened. Make sure to mix offen & it should be bubbly.
  5. Then stir in the green beans.
  6. Stir into 1 1/2 quart casserole baking dish.
  7. Cover with pastry crust top, flute the edges, cut vents for steam & brush with the milk.
  8. Bake for about 30 mins or until pie crust is lightly brown & mixture is tender.
