deep dish beef pie

I have made this a few times. Sometimes I use left over stew from the night before. It's a better way of using leftovers. My uncle calls it "day after stew pie" kind of as a personal family joke.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless beef sirloin,1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato juice
  • 3/4 teaspoon basil, dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 cups green beans
  • 1 teaspoon milk
  • 1 - pie crust shell

How To Make deep dish beef pie

  • Step 1
    Spray large frying pan or skillet with non-stick oil. Heat pan over medium heat. Heat oven to 400F.
  • Step 2
    Brown half the meat at a time. Return all the meat to the pan.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the next 9 ingredients, cover pan & let simmer for about 50 to 60 mins or until meat is nearly tender.
  • Step 4
    Combine the flour with with 2 tsp. of water & stir into a mixture. Pour over the meat & veggies & cook until thickened. Make sure to mix offen & it should be bubbly.
  • Step 5
    Then stir in the green beans.
  • Step 6
    Stir into 1 1/2 quart casserole baking dish.
  • Step 7
    Cover with pastry crust top, flute the edges, cut vents for steam & brush with the milk.
  • Step 8
    Bake for about 30 mins or until pie crust is lightly brown & mixture is tender.
