My kids didn't like tomato based stews. I ran across this recipe from an old A-1 recipe booklet that I modified. Even my picky husband liked this one.

Ingredients
- 1-1/2 pound beef stew meat
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 - bouillon cubes, dissolved in 3 cups boiling water
- 3 tablespoons a-1 steak sauce
- 1-1/2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme, dried
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 - bay leaf
- 4 - carrots cut in 1 inch slices
- 4 - potatoes, cut in 1 inch chunks
- 1/2 - onion, quartered
- 1 package frozen peas
How To Make beef stew

Step 1Place 3 cups water in saucepan and heat to boiling. Drop in bouillon cubes to melt.

Step 2Meanwhile, Heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown stew meat.

Step 3Place carrots, potatoes and onion in bottom of crockpot.

Step 4Add browned stew meat on top of vegetables.

Step 5Check bouillon cubes to see if they have dissolved. If not crush until all is dissolved.

Step 6Add A-1, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, pepper and salt. Pour over stew meat in crockpot; add bay leaf. Cook for 8-10 hours.
