My kids didn't like tomato based stews. I ran across this recipe from an old A-1 recipe booklet that I modified. Even my picky husband liked this one.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pound beef stew meat
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 - bouillon cubes, dissolved in 3 cups boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons a-1 steak sauce
  • 1-1/2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 4 - carrots cut in 1 inch slices
  • 4 - potatoes, cut in 1 inch chunks
  • 1/2 - onion, quartered
  • 1 package frozen peas

How To Make beef stew

  • Step 1
    Place 3 cups water in saucepan and heat to boiling. Drop in bouillon cubes to melt.
  • Step 2
    Meanwhile, Heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown stew meat.
  • Step 3
    Place carrots, potatoes and onion in bottom of crockpot.
  • Step 4
    Add browned stew meat on top of vegetables.
  • Step 5
    Check bouillon cubes to see if they have dissolved. If not crush until all is dissolved.
  • Step 6
    Add A-1, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, pepper and salt. Pour over stew meat in crockpot; add bay leaf. Cook for 8-10 hours.
