This stew I make all the time, in the fall and winter time, so now is the time to make it again. Made it for my Uncle and Aunt these last few weeks, they loved it.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


  • 2 lb
    beef stew meat cubed
  • 1/4 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 3 c
  • 1 pkg
    beef stew seasoning
  • 5 c
    mixed fresh vegetables, like potatoes, carrots peas, onions, celery
  • 1/4 c
    barley, uncooked

How to Make Beef Barley Stew


  1. Coat stew meat with flour and brown in the oil. After meat has browned add water and barley, cover with enough water and bring to a boil, keeping it at a medium boil and boil until meat is tender, this may take up to 3 or 4 hours. Then place in a crock pot. Add everything else and cover with water.
  2. In crock pot, cook on high for about 1 1/2 hours more or until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Serve with a good crusty roll or bread. Enjoy
